The College of Architecture and Fine Arts was formally established in 1984, some 30 years from its beginnings as the Department of Architecture of the College of Engineering in 1955.  Born out of a need to pursue the study of design as a worthy endeavor in the uplifting of the human condition, and the necessity to be free to explore it beyond science and technology, the College has developed into what it is today: a school of design; a community that shares a common passion for innovation and inquiry.

Staffed by a faculty of over fifty architects, engineers, artists, planners and craftsmen, CAFA has responded to the need for a broad education of future architects and artists who are expected to serve in our part of the world as well as beyond Asian boundaries.  Because its graduates often become the prime resources for services and advice in their local communities, its programs have a special tilt towards local and regional conditions while providing broad concepts and aesthetic principles that universally apply through all time.  Thus, while many of its graduates are deriving fulfillment in the practice of their professions in the local communities, quite a few have achieved acclaim in the major capitals of the world.
